Citizenship Education is now a compulsory part of the secondary school curriculum in England and Wales. It is also being incorporated into the curriculum in many schools in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Everyone has questions.

  • What do I teach?
  • Who should be teaching it?
  • What is the best way to teach it?
  • What's the agenda?
  • Whose values do we teach?
  • Should there be dedicated lessons each week, with special citizenship activities?
  • Should citizenship be integrated throughout the whole curriculum?

The Exploring Citizenship series aims to answer these questions. This series is for:

  • Teachers responsible for citizenship education
  • Those planning resources for citizenship
  • Teacher trainers
  • Teachers in training

Beginning with deep questions about human beings and human society, pupils and teachers are encouraged to explore together what it means to be a good citizen. Each book introduces key themes underlying community life and then points teachers to the practical means by which these can be explored across the curriculum.

This series is published by The Stapleford Centre.
